Brisbane Girls Grammar School Year 12 students taught tots about technology with their newly developed educational games at the Holy Family Childcare Centre.

Co-Director of Technology at Brisbane Girls Grammar Brendon Thomas said challenging students to create valuable educational games for pre-schoolers helped them develop important skills for the future.

“With the rapid changes in technology children learn more interactively now making them a fantastic group to design educational gaming for,” Mr Thomas said.

“Our students were challenged to design games with either a literacy or numeracy focus, both vitally important foundation skills in a child’s life.”

During the seven week development stage students had to learn new a programming language, record and edit audio, research interface and game design and then craft their own unique interactive educational game.

“Projects like this allow our students to bridge the intergenerational gap by tutoring the kids through the games and learning from watching the pre-schoolers interact with the technology,” Mr Thomas said.

“Interactive education is the future and teenagers today need to be given the skills to teach and lead the next generation,” he said.
